ABOUT US

The Riverside Legal Professionals Association is a nonprofit, educational organization whose purpose is to further knowledge of law and its procedures, promote a high standard of ethics, encourage a statewide networking system, and advance the interests of our members and the legal community.

Chartered in 1949, RLPA is a member of Legal Professionals, Incorporated (LPI) which has been in service to California legal professionals since 1934.

Who Can Join?

Anyone who has worked in the legal field for at least one (1) year as a secretary, paralegal, legal assistant, stenographer, typist, clerk or reporter, in the office of an attorney licensed to practice law in this state, or in the courts of this state, trust departments of bank or trust companies, or in any other institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature, including the public offices of the United States Government, states, cities, counties or municipalities.

How Do I Join?

Our fiscal year runs from May 1 to April 30.  Dues are $55 per year which includes membership in LPI as well as our local association.

Code of Ethics

 

It shall be the duty of each member of LPI to observe all laws, rules, and regulations now or hereafter in effect relating to confidentiality and privileged communication, acting with loyalty, integrity, competence, and diplomacy in accordance with the highest standards of professional conduct.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to any person working in the legal profession.  In addition to legal secretaries, the membership is open to attorneys, legal assistants, receptionists, clerks, court reporters, legal administrators, court personnel and banking trust department personnel.

OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES

  • To establish good fellowship among the members of this association.

  • To stimulate a high order of business and professional attainment.

  • To further our knowledge of the law and to uphold its honor and dignity.

  • To create a high standard of ethics among our members.

Benefits of being a member of RLPA are:

  • To unite and further encourage networking of persons engaged or interested in any phase of legal work.

  • To promote the interest of legal professionals and support staff.

  • To provide continuing education and professional development through seminars and workshops.

  • To stimulate professional attainment through the Legal Specialization Sections and the California Certified Legal Secretary program.

  • To create a high standard of ethics among members.

  • To provide quarterly and annual conferences as a means of bringing legal professionals together.  You can obtain more information about our state association at www.lsi.org.

  • Continuing education through educational programs and speakers at general membership meetings as well as at LSI conferences held quarterly.

  • Networking:  Through educational meetings, conferences, seminars and other events you will meet other legal professionals working in all areas of law.

  • The Legal Secretary:  Quarterly magazine published by Legal Secretaries Incorporated.

  • Insurance:  A variety of individual insurance plans including health, dental, disability, life and major medical are available through several providers.

  • Retirement Planning:  Help with retirement planning is available through a variety of providers.

  • Discounts on Hertz Rental cars.


Requirements for Membership:

 

Active:  An active member shall be a person approved by the membership who is: licensed to practice law;  employed as legal support staff in the office of any attorney engaged in the practice of law; employed by the courts; or employed in any other institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature.
